Help configuring disk spin-down

Featured Replies

Hi folks, first time post, relatively new to Unraid and hoping for some (possible) assistance with getting my array disks to spin down. I believe everything is configured as should be.

Layout-wise I have:

  • two disk cache pool on NVME doe system/appdata

  • an 8 disk array (7 data, 1 parity - SAS disks) housing the main share data

  • two disk "array_cache" on SATA SSD for downloaders, initial share data storage prior to mover jobs.

For the life of me I cannot get my array disks to spin-down. Settings were initially left as "default"; I have since configured the global setting within System Settings/Disk Settings to 30 minutes. Each individual disk has also been set to 30minutes - with no actual difference. Clicking the Spin Down button only appears to affect the two SATA SSDs (they go grey) - the SAS disks remain always on. Clicking individual disk icons results in activity/spinning icon before status returns to green.

After some initial reading I stumbled across the SAS spindown plugin - this doesn't appear to have made any difference either.

Is there something I'm missing, or is it just my config and I'll have to live with "always up" disks?

Thanks in advance; any help greatly appreciated

Ryan

UPDATE / EDIT; I appear to have resolved the issue by following the following steps as outlined at SAS Drives won't spin down : r/unRAID

  1. Uninstalled SAS Spindown plugin, set all drives to Never Spindown

  2. Reboot server

  3. Set all drives to 1h spindown

  4. reboot server

  5. Install SAS Spindown plugin

  6. reboot server
