Moving a Disk from Array > Parity + Adding drives to Array

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

Recently I decided to make some changes to the disks in my Unraid server, and have run into some issues with the process. My Unraid server is pretty basic and was initially configured like this:

  1. Parity:

    1. 4 TB

    2. Empty

  2. Array:

    1. 4 TB

    2. 1 TB

  3. Cache:

    1. 1 x 250 GB

I purchased a couple cheap 3 TB drives and a SASS card recently from eBay and had hoped to upgrade my server to this configuration:

  1. Parity:

    1. 4 TB

    2. 4 TB (previously part of the array)

  2. Array:

    1. 1 TB

    2. 3 TB (New drive)

    3. 3 TB (New drive)

  3. Cache:

    1. 1 x 250 GB

Steps I took:

  1. Install SASS card + new drives

  2. Added them to the array

  3. Use Unbalanced to scatter the files from the 4 TB drive in the array across the 3 TB drives

  4. Re-Assigned the 4 TB drive from the array to Parity

My issue is, since I have tried to switch the disk that was previously on the array to parity, I cannot successfully complete a Parity Check. I though the next step would be to complete a Parity Check before returning to use the server normally. I have made a few attempts, but I am unable to complete the parity check. Each time it runs, it seems to hang at some point (different points, could be early, or quite late in the process).

I'm looking for some support in determining the next steps. From looking around online I was thinking I may need to create a new config, but not sure if that is safe to do so currently.
In the meantime I have reset the servers bios back to defaults, and have started another parity check (read online that the hangs could be caused by CPU/Ram Stability and I have XMP and PBO enabled)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My system is on Unraid 7.2.0, and is a B450 Motherboard with a Ryzen 2700x, 32 GB of DDR4, and a GTX 1060. I recently upgraded the hardware as part of this overall upgrade. Please see the attached an image of my current "Main" page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
