disk not assigned, but available, RAIDz1 pool online - how to get assignment back without resilvering?

Featured Replies

Hi,

i have a RAIDz1 pool with 5 slots

one disk dropped out. It went to not installed. I started the Array and the pool came online without that disk. After that, the space for that disk went to "not assigned" .

I manually resilvered the pool and it can be manually imported without issues.

The GUI wants to "format" the disk if i set from "not assigned" to that disk, even though the pool is fine.

How can i align this discrepancy from GUI to real life?

on main click on the first device for that pool and then "remove pool"

back on main, create a new pool with the same name and number of slots

assign the pool device(s), leave the filesystem set to auto

start the array to import the pool

thankyou, @JorgeB! Your description was very helpful and solved my problem of not being able to mount my pool via GUI/unRAID and having to fear overwriting the disk (even though i think it would have been just resilvering, but hey, it was not needed so why the additional risk?). Many thanks!
