<shrug>  just passing info not taking side :-)

I think again I have to stand up for Best Buy's Seagate Barracuda LP. The 3 TB version is $169.99, and comes with the same 5 year warranty as the 2 TB drive. $10 for three additional years' coverage is a no-brainer IMHO.

That is not the LP model, it is 7200rpm.

No brainer for me, faster drive with a 5 year warranty for only $10 more.

[shrug] unless of course you want the lower power version.  But certainly as a parity drive the 7200rpm version is more desirable IIRC.

yea, youll need it for a seagate ;)

::) I've had to RMA six drives in the past two months: two Seagates, one Samsung (fulfilled by Seagate), and three Western Digitals.

Sorry, brain fart on my part there. I had just finished looking at the 2 TB Barracuda LP, so I had "LP" on the brain. But I agree: unless you have an aversion to the faster rotation, then this makes it an even better value.

Although I think the performance difference in an unRAID application is pretty marginal between a 7200 vs. 5400 rpm drive; I also think that the power savings and heat dissipation differences are pretty marginal as well.
