December 4, 2025Dec 4 Author Hi @JorgeB ,at the moment its Unraid 7.2.2 but i may have updated from 7.2.0 to 7.2.2 while i switched my Macbooks. But i cannot pin that down exactly in that timeline.
December 4, 2025Dec 4 Community Expert Solution There's a Samba bug in the release that comes with all 7.2.x Unraid versions (4.23.2) that breaks Time MachinePart of the bug was fixed in Samba 4.23.3, but there's an additional opath that hasn't yet been merged, the next Unraid release after that is out should resolve the issue, but if you need TM, now best bet for now is to downgrade to 7.1.4, https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15926

December 19, 2025Dec 19 I did switch to the tm container which works without issue, as such I don't have unraid configured as a target anymore.But I was getting the exact same error as op, I’ll see if I can recover the logs from this morning.See attached logs.Yes, I did check the permissions, users and everything over and over again, it stopped working a while ago when I removed the tm completely on my old Mac and deleted the share. December 19, 2025Dec 19 I did set it up as a tm share (also if I didn't I wouldn't be able to select it at all, would I).I did also select a floor, changed it two times in fact as I was debating how much space from my cache drive I wanted to give to tm backups as I already filled it once.

December 19, 2025Dec 19 Author I have created a completely new share with a name never used before. I still get these errors. Does that maybe have something to do with the size of the backup and the share? With my old 256GB Macbook Air / and share set to 512GB i had no Problems. My new Macbook Pro has 1TB and the share is set to 2048GB.I have checked the samba.conf to make sure my old manual edits were not creating new problems. Also the extra configurations set in the GUI are empty and the smb service was restarted.

Regardless of the combination—whether changing quota limits, share settings, or other options—Time Machine does not work.I am still receiving the permission errors I described earlier. At this point, I am very certain the issue is not related to how I create or configure the share on the server, as I have ruled out every possible variable.

December 25, 2025Dec 25 Community Expert While I still cannot reproduce the issue when creating an TM actual backup, but I've found a manual way to trigger the bug, and can confirm it's still present in Unraid 7.2.3, not sure how, since Samba 2.23.4 was supposed to fix exactly this bug, but there's no doubt for me now that it's still there.LT is aware of the issue and will investigate. Possibly the patch didn't get correctly applied to Samba 4.23.4, only Samba 4.22.7, but now that I can reproduce it 100% of the time, it should be easier to troubleshoot.Until this is resolved, recommend that anyone who uses TM remain on 7.1.4 or use the container option with 7.2.x
