Prep to upgrade from 5b12a to 5rc3: Parity Check stuck at 0%

Featured Replies

Hi y'all...after almost 8 months in the USA, i just returned back to Germany, where i've deposited my trusty unRAID for reasons i won't go into detail now.

i lost connectivity with my network in Germany a few months ago, due to my nephew unplugging a network cable he shouldn't have (to hook up his xbox...tsk, tsk, tsk) ...because the house where the unRAID lives is old and doesn't have very strong circuits, the power went out a number of times in my absence, which caused my unRAID to go into a parity check when i started it back up just now...since i want to upgrade to rc3, i want this parity check to finish before i do anything else, but about 2hrs into it, it still shows 0%, and the UI doesn't give me any feedback as to where in the process it is...didn't older versions of the UI have a progress report that showed the speed and approximate time until finish? what happened to that? i also remember that i used to be able to use the array duing a parity check, but at the moment all disks except for one (plus the Flash drive) still show as "Mounting", and the array status as "Starting...".

what is going wrong here, and what should i do? i can see disks being accessed by the parity scanning process (their lights change from green to orange on my 5-in-3 modules), but since it still says 0% in the browser's status bar, and no other info is given in the UI, i am a bit apprehensive.

btw, it's a 24TB array with 13 disk plus a parity disk, which had been upgraded pretty much on ever level (CPU, RAM, SATA controllers, etc.) to increase parity build speed, and used to rebuild parity in about 6-8hrs, if i remember correctly...after about 2hrs, it certainly would be further along than 0%.

any suggestions as to what to do (and not do)?

if i can get past this point, is upgrading to rc3 a wise thing to do? it seems that people are having some presky issues with rc3 (permissions, etc.)

thanks in advance for any input.

whoa...i just reloaded the page for the 3rd or 4th time (i did so two or three times prior to posting the above), and it now shows the progress report i was missing, at 4%...so i guess it is doing what it's supposed to, just quite a bit more slowly than i remember.

feel free to delete this thread, unless someone has anything to say/recommend about the b12a to rc3 upgrade (to do, or not to do)...
