June 2, 201214 yr This is a bare drive, so will only have a one year warranty. The retail version sold at Best Buy has a five year warranty for $169.99. For $12 I think it's a no-brainer.

Pretty sweet for the price.

June 3, 201214 yr Since I didn't break any tabs, I don't think I voided my warranty. I followed these instructions exactly (including using the Stabucks coffee stopper) and it worked perfectly. So like I said. Sweet deal.

So like I said. Sweet deal. The youtube video and the amazon product are different... You linked to the Seagate Expansion in your Amazon link and the Seagate GoFlex Desk in your youtube video. I'm assuming that the process works on either one. I was using a credit card on the Seagate Expansion 3TB and it did not work well. I'll give a Starbucks stopper a try next time.
June 3, 201214 yr My bad. The product I have is the Seagate GoFlex, and I purchased it from Costco for $129. It is exactly the same as the YouTube video in every detail. I thought it was the same as the Amazon link.

I had to break the tabs of the enclosure to get the drive out. thegizzard, Is the ST3000DM001 drive what you found inside the 3TB GoFlex enclosure?

I have bought 4 of the Seagate Expansion 3T from amazon & 1 Seagate GoFlex from Best Buy, & they are all ST3000DM001. In the attached jpg Disk4 is the goflex. -john
