Upgrading (migrating) my server

Featured Replies

I now my server is a older HP Prolient and I would like to take the thumbdrive and all the HDD's and switch them into a newer case with all newer hardware.

Is this something doable? and what are some of the questions I should be investigating?

Are there any guides out there? I really would like not to lose any of my files and have to rebuild from scratch.

Thanks for any help- Rob

Take a pic of your 'main' page and use it to assign all your drives in the new PC in the same array spots as the old. If you are using USB attached drives, things could be more complicated.

Edit:. And make a flash backup first.

And I should be able to just switch the thumbdrive from the old computer to the new?

Yep. After it boots up, you will need to assign the array drives. That's where the pic comes handy for me.

I've moved my array a few times between 3 different systems. The only tedium I run into sometimes is reconfiguring the containers.

Thanks for the help. I also read in one of the posts that there may be an issue because I will be going from an intel based system to an AMD based system.

Have you heard anything about that?

I did not experience the amd c-state issue on a trx4 3960 cpu. Have a look here to see what's what.
