Disabled encrypted XFS disk after power outage – disk disappears when re-assigning

Featured Replies

Hi all,

after a power outage (UPS is ordered already…) one of my data disks in Unraid got disabled with a filesystem error.

Setup / situation:

  • Unraid version: 7.2.0

  • Data disk (not parity)

  • Filesystem: XFS encrypted

  • Disk shows as “missing (disabled), contents emulated”

What I did so far:

  1. Stopped the array

  2. Ran the filesystem check / repair (xfs_repair) via the Unraid GUI

  3. Cleared the log

  4. Disk itself looks healthy and is detected normally

Current problem:
When I try to re-assign the disk to its original slot:

  • The disk appears in the dropdown

  • I select it

  • The UI refreshes

  • The disk immediately disappears from the dropdown again

  • In this disabled slot there is no “No Device” option

  • The slot always stays at “missing (disabled), contents emulated”

  • Even after starting the array once with the disk missing and stopping it again, the slot never becomes truly empty

Because of this, I cannot re-attach the disk and start a rebuild.

Has anyone seen this behavior before?
Is Tools → New Config (preserve all assignments) the correct/safe way forward here, or is there another recommended approach for encrypted XFS disks in this state?

Thanks a lot for any advice!

There are ATA erros logged, check/repace both cables for that disk and try again.
