No network connectivity after rebuild – Realtek 8125 NIC, IPv4/IPv6 not set (Unraid 7.0.1)

I’m having network issues after a system rebuild and I’m hoping for some guidance.

Background
I recently rebuilt my Unraid system with new hardware. The server was working normally before the rebuild, using the same USB boot device and Unraid install.

New hardware

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

  • Motherboard: ASUS B650E (Realtek 8125 NIC)

  • RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 2x16GB

  • BIOS version: 3602

  • Unraid version: 7.0.1

Issue
After the rebuild, Unraid boots but shows:

  • IPv4 address: not set

  • IPv6 address: not set

I have no network connectivity

What I’ve tried

  • Verified the Ethernet cable works on another computer

  • Confirmed the onboard NIC is enabled in BIOS

  • Updated the motherboard BIOS to version 3602

  • Checked BIOS settings for anything network-related that might be disabled

  • Downloaded an updated Realtek 8125 driver, but I’m unclear how (or if) it can be loaded manually in Unraid

I’ve read that there can be issues with the Realtek 8125 NIC, which makes me suspect a driver problem, but I’m not sure what the next step should be.

Diagnostics
Diagnostics are attached to this post.

You have one NIC and network config bond eth0-3, pls try delete network config and try again ( post new diagnostics if problem not solve )

rm /boot/config/network.cfg

rm /boot/config/network-rules.cfg # Optional, but recommended

first of all: get rid of that bond! it is useless.

Unplug all but one (eth0) cables.

second: nobody will be able to help you unless you supply diagnostics here

@Vr2Io

I deleted rm /boot/config/network.cfg. I have done this before with no luck, but I did it again and attached a new diagnostics.

I could not find this file to delete rm /boot/config/network-rules.cfg

I did have 5 SATA devices. 2 were old external storage that I was using as caches. they were small and didn't really need them. so I unplugged them, incase they were causing a problem.

@MAM59

I'm not sure how to get rid of bonds. My NAS was plugged into a network switch, but there is only one ethernet port and cable running from the NAS to the switch. I did try to remove the switch and plug directly into the modem, but that didn't give me internet access either. Also, I thought I attached my original diagnositics to the post. I've attached a new one to this response. If this is not the correct files, let me know and I'll try to figure out the correct ones.

Thanks

Disable bond in Settings --> Network Settings in the GUI

Try Installing the RTL8125(B) drivers plugin from Apps in the Unraid GUI. Then reboot.

plugging the modem into either the switch or the computer wont really help you.

You need to put it into the router you should have somewhere.

@Hoopster I don't have the bonding setting options like you do (see attached picture). I had to lookup "enable bonding" and then the words popped up in setting, but there was nothing for me to choose. Also, being that I don't have internet access, I can't get the plug-in through Apps. I did go to realtek and download the driver. but I can't figure out how to load it manually. Thank

Dec 26 14:53:49 ClosetNAS kernel: r8169 0000:06:00.0: error -ENODEV: unknown chip XID 688, contact r8169 maintainers (see MAINTAINERS file)

NIC is not supported by the stock kernel driver, you need the Realtek 8125 plugin.

The easiest way is typically booting the flash drive in any other PC that has a supported NIC and using that to install the driver plugin, then put it back on the server.
