Can anyone tell me what really happened here? Very Curious

Featured Replies

1. I Licensed Unraid in 2020 . USB licence reciept shows registration to FLASH GUID XXXX
2. Works fine for over four years. I'm loving it.. My physical Unraid server sits in corner and NO ONE else is even here that could access it and the USB drive is NEVER removed.

  1. Update to 7.2.2 while doing NOTHING else to the server no setting changes etc.

  2. Reboot

  3. On reboot array cannot be restarted so no server. A warning is displayed "Registration key / USB Flash GUID mismatch"
    Flash GUID: XXXX

    Registered GUID: YYYY
Registered on: Mon, 24 November 2025 (DATE I UPDATED AND REBOOTED)

  4. I talk to support. They send me a registration link that shows my original Order number back in 2020 but its registered to FLASH GUID YYYY.

  5. Support say put the original USB key back in.. It never left the server

  6. I Provide support screen grabs of above and they say it shows the USB has changed. How can it have changed when it shows my USB the same GUID now as when registered back in 2020.

Now I'm happy to to replace the USB but what happened?.

Does this kind of thing happen with unraid often?.
Can I rely on a server that can have this type of issues?

Make sure that's the only flash drive connected, and if yes, a flash drive changing the GUID on its own is typically a sign that it's failing.

Thanks for reply @JorgeB
Its the only flash drive connected ever since 2020.
The flash drive did not change GIUD that any records show. This is what I assumed happened but Unraid still shows the original GUID it was registered to. I have the 2020 receipt.
What changed is the GUID my account says its registered to.

Didn't you say that the registered GUID and the one the flash drive shows don't match? Or did I misunderstand?

He said, the stick (and its guid) stayed since 2020, but the guid that is stored at limetech mystically has changed ?!?!?

very strange, besides contacting support and telling this unbelievable story, I have no idea what to do now.

Ohh, I misunderstood. That suggests the key was transferred to another flash drive. If not by you, it could have been some glitch or something, but only support can check licensing issues, probably easiest to just replace the flash drive.

I think they have a glitch. Becuase I submmited a ticket 2 days ago. My original key was related to an usb which tends to fail. So I installed my key into the new one with "replace licensed key". It worked until reboot. License fine and normal behaviour. And now, it doesn't work. The ticket was answered yesterday, and they told me to set new key url download into new usb. But they told me that it was associated to old GUID, which "was suceessfull". I didn't get that. Precisely i want to leave behing old usb. Nonetheless, new url offers same error. Very rare ..

I have had this discussion with support. They answered with advice but keep saying to replace the original usb. I get the feeling they think im not telling the truth.

However if their system is switching licenses thats a serious issue IMO. I like unraid. I dont want to have to look for something more reliable.

yes im just going to change the USB key.....but it doesnt seem like the usb key was even the issue

Well, what I need is the license I paid for just working or being attended correctly. It's frustrating not to be able to use my system. I've waiting for my support ticket to be solved from Monday. Almost two days without answer. No phone for support calls...

Support are reasonably fast to respond via unraid.net. create a ticket and youl be back within a day or two depending on time zone differences

  • 2 weeks later...

This is the type of answer I get from Support. The story to them is unbelievable so therefor I'm lying. I'm not sure what the motivation would be for lying given that resolving the issue with a new USB and license transfer is not difficult.

I can state that I did not re register the same exact time as I rebooted from update to 7.2.2. all day, but refusing to believe me does not sort the issue. No one wants their software to have an unknown bug. I get it, it so often is user error. I just don't want to lose access to MY files every time I update
