New downloaded movies not showing in Plex

Featured Replies

Hopefully I'm in the correct place to report this.

For some reason, newly downloaded movies aren't moving into Plex.

The physical data is showing in the file explorer, but not in Plex.

Any ideas/help gratefully appreciated.

I would first check your Plex settings: If this is set correctly, new media should show up in a minute or so when added to your Library. If not, does it show after manually rescanning your Library?

Ok well the mystery of two similar shares is solved. it's DOCUMENTS and DOWNLOADS... Both are 9 letters beginning and ending with the same letters. Diagnostics must have confused these two because of

Thank you for your answer!

Unfortunately, that has not fixed my issue.

Anything newly added recently shows up in Explorer, but not in Plex.

However, when looking at the logs, I do see the following error:

Critical: libusb_init failed

** This has only started happening in the last week or so. Before then, it was working just fine! **

Kind Regards

This is in almost everybody's log. It means that Plex did not find any USB TV tuner device. Ignore it, unless you are one of the few people left on the planet using one.

Two things to check next:

  • Are the files in the correct place? Confirm they are in the location that is specified by Plex and your Docker template mapping. (If in the same path as other media Plex can see, you are probably good)

  • Check file Owner and Permissions. Use the built in Unraid File Management, and see if the unseen files are the same as the one's you can see in Plex. However you are downloading files may be setting this in a way that prevents Plex from seeing them.

It might also be worth checking that the volume mapping for the Plex container has the relevant location mapped using a ‘slave’ access mode.

I don't have a TV Tuner device connected.

I have added 2 Movies plus a new TV Series in the last week or so, but none are showing in Plex.

Sorry, I'm a noob with this, so I don't know how to deal with anything complicated. Not sure where to look to check ownership and Permissions.

Everything was working just fine until recently - not sure if it could've been anything to do with the latest update.

Any and all help gratefully appreciated.

Kind Regards

@itimpi Sorry, I don't understand about checking Container etc.

PS, the Movies and TV Series are showing in Radarr and Sonarr, and also in Explorer - just not moved into Plex.

Unraid's File Manager works like most computer directory interfaces (like Windows Explorer, in Details view)

Click Shares and you will see a list of your shares. My media is in the Media share (imaginative, ain't I?). A Share in Unraid is basically a top level folder in Windows. If you click on the icon to the left of the Share's name, it opens the share (folder).

I'll move down to a movie in my Movies folder:

Looking at the screenshots above you will see that for both the sub-folders and the media, the OWNER is nobody. The PERMISSIONS are allowing everything for folders, and allow reading and writing for the media files (you can find many video or text tutorials on Linux permissions, I'm not going there today).

We have no idea how you are downloading your media, how that is configured, or if the media is where Plex expects the files to be. So you need check just where the files are (in the correct location for Plex to find?), and are the Permissions and Owner the same as the Media files Plex is able to read (this can block a program/user from seeing/using it).

You could just try Tools - New Permissions on ONLY the user share that has the files.

@ConnerVT New stuff is downloaded via Radarr and Sonarr, and the physical files (Movie or TV Series) are located in File Explorer in their relevant locations, but they are not getting added into Plex - so they don't show up.

Hope this makes sense!?

Thanks

Post a screenshot similar to the one above that shows an actual movie file that Plex doesn't see.

The film below shows in Explorer, but not in Plex.

Hope this helps.

I was asking for a screenshot similar to this one which was posted above:

over to the left in Plex where the menu is, you'll see the directory for your movies and a 3 dot menu just to the right of it, in that menu is "scan library files"....try that and see if it picks it up. If not, you probably just have Plex pointed at the wrong directory.

If you would just do this, it would elimate file permissions as being the cause of the problem.

@trurl My system doesn't look like that.

@SPOautos I have already done a "Scan Library Files" and nothing changed. (

Here is my version of that movie.

Permissions look OK. Maybe a Plex database issue?

If you add another movie to that share does plex pick it up?

For some reason your MOVIE share has a MOVIE folder in it and I think this might be an error on your end.

Also, I haven't looked into this in a while but, plex doesn't really support categorizing your movies so you either need to create separate plex libraries for your categorizations or forgoe the categorizaions and put all your files in the "movies" folder without sub-folders. Plex is VERY strict how you can store your media: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/

Seems like a plex problem, have you asked there?

How about some of the more basic troubleshooting things we usually ask for just in case that might tell something.

Post docker run for plex
