👋 Please welcome @SimonF to the Unraid team!

We’re excited to officially welcome Simon Fairweather as a Senior Software Engineer at Unraid.

Simon is UK-based, living in Buckinghamshire with his wife and son, and grew up in Norfolk. His journey with computers started early—beginning with a Sinclair ZX81, then a ZX Spectrum, before moving into PCs. From there, Simon’s career evolved through CP/M systems and COBOL in the late ’80s, on to AS/400 systems, where he worked as a developer on an automation product called AOS.

Over the next 30+ years, Simon worked with MSPs and outsourcing companies across networking and security, and more recently spent 4.5 years at Lotus Cars before joining the Unraid team.

Simon’s Unraid journey began in April 2015, when he was looking for a way to host his DVD and Blu-ray collection using a mix of older hardware and mismatched drives. A Plex container soon followed—and Unraid quickly became his daily driver. Today, Simon runs a Windows VM on his Unraid server and became increasingly active in the forums, helping users troubleshoot and improve their setups.

That involvement led to his first plugin, USB Manager, which enabled hot-plugging USB devices into VMs.

From there, Simon began contributing small PRs to Unraid itself (mostly VM-related), and more and more began helping to maintain VM Manager.

Today, Simon maintains and has created many popular Community Apps, including:

  • WOL

  • USB Manager

  • iSCSI Target

  • LCD Manager

  • IPMI Tools

  • GPU Stats

  • Tasmota Power Monitor

  • Network UPS Tools (NUT)

  • …and many more!

Outside of technology, Simon enjoys cars and motorsports, exploring places of interest, and going on walks with his family. Fun fact: Simon previously held a commercial pilot’s license and has logged 500+ hours of flight time ✈️

We’re incredibly excited to have Simon officially join the Unraid team after years of invaluable community contributions. Please join us in giving Simon a warm welcome!

👏👏 👏

Congratulations its official!

Welcome to the Unraid team @SimonF 😁

Congratulations Simon!

I didn't realise you were behind so many plugins that I rely on. Glad to see you're now "official" ;)

So, nothing really changed except for your shirt? 😀

Congrats for the deserved recognition of the work you do.

Thanks for the welcome, seems a little strange as have been on the forums since 2015.

Nut is now looked after by Rysz but I did support before he took it on.

Welcome Simon 😉
