Problem Accessing Server from Windows Explorer

Featured Replies

Not sure what happened but I was able to reach my server via Windows Explorer and even mapped a bunch of drives to various shares. I can access the shares via the mapped drives but I can no longer do it via Network. The server shows up, but when clicking on it I get a message "Windows Cannot Access Tower".

I have no idea how this happened or why I can still access the mapped drives. Anyone have any ideas what may be the problem?

Post up the diagnostics file after the problem has occurred in a new post in this thread.

Here you go. One thing I noticed is that if I reboot my pc, I am then able to access the server via Networks in Windows Explorer. I think, but not 100% sure, when my pc sleep and I wake it up, it will no longer be able to access the server but will work via my mapped drives.

When this fails, try typing \\server_name or \\IP_address as shown below and see if you can access the server that way.

If I put in \\terrafirma and hit enter, nothing happens. It won't accept hitting enter, just sits there. If I put in the ip, it opens google browser and takes me to the server login page.

So I shut down my pc, restarted it, and was able to access the server briefly for 2min, then it lost it's connection to it. But I was still able to go to the mapped drives and access them that way. Very bizarre!

You seem to have Jumbo frames enabled. This has given problems in the past. Suggest returning to the default. (MTU = 1500)

As far as I can tell I don't. I'm assuming you mean on my server?

Make sure you put \\ in front of the ip address

Here's what's is strange. If I let my computer on for like 30min or so, eventually I am able to connect to it again. I just noticed that now. I'll give that a try next time but I'm thinking this may be related to my pc and not the server.

I got that from this syslog entry:

Jan 8 16:36:11 TerraFirma kernel: r8169 0000:02:00.0 eth0: jumbo features [frames: 9194 bytes, tx checksumming: ko]

Odd, not sure why it's showing that as my server doesn't have it enabled as per my screenshot above. Not sure where else to look to see if it's set differently than what is shown.

There are a number of strange things going on in your Syslog. I wish that someone with a good knowledge of reading syslogs would have a good look at it...
