Degraded to 6.12.15 then lost GUI

Featured Replies

I did a number of dumb moves and need some help. I have a Plex ecosystem that was working great then I HAD to play around with SAB to get it to work with Bazarr. Then SAB disappeared as a Docker. I thought, if I went back to 6.12.15 from 7.2.4 if would fix it. Of course, it did not. The GUI comes up in 6.12.15 but if I click on any other tab it dies. I do not see anyway to upgrade back to 7.2.4.

Could one of you good people please tell me :

How to get my GUI back and stable,

How to upgrade back to 7.2.4 (I have a backup zip)

How to possibly get my SabNZB back, maybe even to an earlier version.

I cannot even get you a diagnostics file yet.

I love this server but I clearly do not understand what I am doing.

Do you have an attached keyboard and monitor?

See if you can get the diagnostics from there, then attach them to your next reply.

JorgeB, I have been working on this since I got your note. I am such a rookie it is very slow going; however, I really appreciate your guidance.

Sorry to be so dense; I got the diagnosics zip to be created but how do I get it to you? It is in the /boot/log folder but how do I access it and get it to you. I cannot ping my unraid server from windows so ssh or scp will not work.

You can shut down the server using the CLI by typing shutdown, then remove the flash drive, insert it in a PC, and copy that zip

Wow, how clever. I willl remember that tip. Shutdown command did not work even after 15 minutes of frying all the switches, including the manditory t, which I set to 120 sec. I did an ungraceful

hard stop. Diag files attached.

I have a 7.2.3 backup zip on my Windows PC. Can I put that on another USB and boot from it?

  • Community Expert

There's an nginx error, though not sure it's relevant, edit /config/ident.cfg on the flash drive and change USE_SSL from "yes" to "no", then reboot in safe mode and get new diags if you still can't reach the GUI.

JorgeB,

I did as you advised I edited the file, put the USB back in, and booted into Safe Mode. Then I restarted windows. The gui came up and allowed me to go into a few tabs but when I tried to go into docker tab it crashed. I got a message from windows: A network change was detected.

Diagnostics attached.

Could you please answer a question I asked before? I have a backup usb zip for 7.3.2 that was done a few days before my screw up. Wouldn't it just be straightforward to do the automatic or manual replace usb procedure for this file with a new usb?

P.S.: Shutting down the server in CLI using the command shutdown now has not worked. It looks like its going down gracefully, stopping services like nginx, but then says; Going to single user mode and then presents the login prompt. I did a hard shutdown.

The config folder from your flash backup is all you need to get your configuration going again on a new install of whichever version. If you use a different flash drive, you will have to do a license transfer.

trurl,

Problem with current setup is that I have no GUI. No sure moving the config folder from my backup to the current set up would cure that.

The GUI(s) are back! All I needed to do was to delete all the Tailscale machines on my Tailnet.

Working to fix this, I thought I would fire up my first Unraid server, which had been down for at least a month. It gave the same result (no connection) with the same message about the network. I thought the problem was Windows. I ran an ipconfig in the Command Prompt, and it showed the PC's Tailnet IP address first. I deleted everything in my tailnet, rebooted, and the old server GUI came up! Tried my new unraid server and its GUI came up!

Talilscale has bitten me in the ass before, so I am definitely off it. "Fool me twice, shame on me."

I am a simple guy who wants tools that will not screw up my system. I am sure Tailscle on my system could be fixed by someone who knows a lot more than me but I am old and in need of a simple system that just works at least locally.

Maybe I will try Tailscale again someday, but something has to change - either the product or my understanding of how to use it- so that it won't break my setup.

You can mark this as solved.
