January 21Jan 21 Hello Unraiders / admins / kindred souls - asking for help:I setup my unraid server back in Jan 2023 and everything worked great. Some time end of 2024, my unraid server crashed (hardware failure) and for reasons I can't get into, I couldn't fix until this week. Rather than dealing with a decade old desktop, I built a brand new computer but the drives were all in a box including the usb key and did not mark the order of disc setup. I managed to boot into safe mode gui with no plugins and I can see:Parity - Populated with one of the drivesParity 2 - UnassignedDisk1 - Populated automaticallyDisk2 - Populated automaticallyPool DevicesCache - shows unassignedUnassigned DevicesShows 3 drives that are unassigned.I wish I took screenshots of the configuration but I didn't. I thought the configuration was backed up into Unraid Connect but when I login, I see loading screen with no servers shown. I know, I should have done a better job with backups but I didn't and I regret it now. What are my options to consider to help restore the drives and shares what it used to be without corrupting my data? Is there anyplace in the unraid boot usb drive I can look for what the original configuration was?Version is 6.11.5.2022-11-20
January 21Jan 21 Community Expert Your disk assignments are in config/super.dat and config/pools on the flash drive. Many of us have changed hardware and used the same flash and disks on the new hardware. It usually just works.Do you think it should have had more disks assigned than it does?
January 21Jan 21 Author Thank you so much for responding. That's what I recall - all drives were assigned and nothing was in the unassinged pool. I definitely recall setting up one of the two SSD drive in the unassigned pool as Cache device but don't know why it's not assigned now. I'll check the Super.dat and see what it shows.
January 21Jan 21 Community Expert 3 minutes ago, Mallik said:check the Super.datIt isn't a simple text file. The main thing is to not assign one of your data disks to either parity slot or it will be overwritten with parity.https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/troubleshooting/common-issues/boot-and-startup-failures/#recovering-from-a-lost-boot-drive-and-unknown-parity-drives
January 21Jan 21 Author Yep, I just figured that out. Looking at the recovery document now. I do recall having only 1 parity drive, now that I think about it. I just need to figure out what the remaining unassigned drives and will follow the instructions in the link above.
