No Web Gui or Shares

Featured Replies

I was on Beta12 and from the Web Gui just clicked stop to stop the array.  It kind of hung up and kept saying trying to reconnect shares in the very bottom of the web page via text.  I couldn't do anything so I had to hard shut it down.

Turned back on and no Web Gui.  So I decided to try to upgrade to RC4.  This at least got it to the point where I could ping it and connect via telnet to it.  Still no shares or Web Gui. Syslog looks like it isn't doing anything.  After about 3 attempts to get the Web GUI back I decided that maybe UNMENU was causing the problem, so I deleted that directory from the flash drive.  That didn't help either.

Please help!

Do you have a backup copy of your flash drive somewhere? If so, revert to your backup, it will make all of this much easier.

Are you still seeing shares on your network? Can you ping the tower?

When you encounter an issue, it is never a good idea to take that opportunity to upgrade to a new version of unRAID and delete folders in an attempt to disable add ons. In the future, please post here when you first have the issue. The steps you've taken will make this much harder to solve.

First, using Notepad++ on Windows or TextEdit on Mac, go into your 'go' file (in the config folder) and comment out (meaning add a # in front of) every line except for this one:

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

This will safely disable all of your add-ons without needing to delete anything from your flash drive.  Reboot the server to make this change take effect.

I can ping the tower, but no shares are visible or active.

I have a 'copy' meaning I dragged the 'flash' folder onto my dekstop. I think that is different than an bootable USB device right?

How can I either make that folder bootable or at run some sort of check on  my flashdrive from Tom?

I am on Mac OS X Lion.

Thanks

Put the flash back in the Mac. Use Disk Utility to check the flash file system. Restore the backup to the flash (copy the files back). Edit the /config/go file as described. Replace the flash and boot the server.

Running disk utility and restoring all files from previous USB drive and commenting out the lines in the go file worked.

Thank you

Well it was up for about 5 minutes and same thing happened again. Just went off line and can't get it back up.

I tried disk utility again but no go this time.  Any other ideas?

Does telnet work? Otherwise you'll need to connect a keyboard and monitor.

Yes.  I got this message after it came back up for a few minutes.

Something wrong with the volume's CNID DB, using temporary CNID DB instead.Check server messages for details. Switching to read-only mode.

It keeps getting up and then down.  My best guess is the USB stick is bad, so I have a new USB stick formatted and booted but it didn't copy my license over.  I formatted it and made it bootable and then copied a backup of all files onto that drive.  I assumed my license would come over.  How do i get my PRO license on the new USB stick?  My old USB stick still works.

I have 15 drives so I need that PRO license to see if it is the USB stick causing issues.

I should say that the pro.key is in the new USB drive so I'm not sure what is up, is there something else to do to attach the pro.key to a new USB stick??

I see a need a new key for a new flash drive.

I guess I'll put the old one back in and attach a sys log...

Log attached, appears to be duplicate items.

Here it is.  This thing is all jacked up and I'm getting really nervous about losing all my data.  One drive now says 'unformatted' and the share will not stay mounted for more than a few minutes so I can not copy anything off of it.  Please help!!

Another syslog, this one right after the share bombed out.

It appears to bomb out as soon as you do anything like try to write to a share, try to read contents of a large share or try to copy anything from the share.

Now I can't even start the array at all!! I am REALLY REALLY worried I can't get my data off of here.  All my photos and movies of kids being born etc. I have no backup, this was supposed to be my backup!!

Worst case is you use driver from this post on Windows to get your data.

Thanks, I already had googled removing resiserFS to windows. I don't have windows, but can scrounge up an old laptop somewhere.

If you have another flash drive, email Tom to transfer the license over to it, and give that a try.

  • Author

already did, he gave me the code, same issues.

Have you run an extended memtest?

  • Author

Not yet, how do I do that?

I have attached my work PC (win7) and the share is letting me stay connected, so I am copying over 100GB of photos. Once I get sensitive data off (assuming it stays online) I'll be able to do more testing.

The fact that windows is staying connected makes me think it may be a Mac OS issue potentially but that makes no sense since it has been in a Mac environment for 4 years without issue to just start without any upgrades to anything is weird.

Memtest requires a connected keyboard and monitor. How do you shut the server down? The syslog indicates an unclean shutdown.

  • Author

I have been just turning it off because I have to turn it off and on every few minutes to try and get files off of it. I can hook a keyboard and monitor up to it no problem.
