January 25Jan 25 Community Expert Yesterday I started a thread about my inability to complete a parity check: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/196750-always-hangs-during-parity-check/One of the responses asked if I had run a Memtest recently, to which I replied that I had never done so. I subsequently installed the Live Memory Tester and had it test 12 of my 16GB of memory. Errors started popping up after just a few minutes and eventually rose to dozens of errors.I then connected a console and ran Memtest86+. It went through a cycle in about 20 minutes and resulted in a PASS.Two questions:1) Why the difference between the two memory test tools? I would have thought that Memtest86+ is the more thorough tester, since it should be addressing the entire 16GB of RAM.2) On the Memtest86+ screen, why does it state "Slot 0: 2GB DDR" when it also shows the 15.7GB above?
January 25Jan 25 Community Expert Memtest86+ ideally should be ran for a period of 24 hours or a fail whichever occurs first.A single failure is enough to say a stick of ram is bad
January 25Jan 25 Author Community Expert Thank you, trurl and MowMdown. I have Memtest86+ running now and will give it 24 hours.I don't know why the Live Memory Test fails so quickly and so readily, but I'll ask the author of that plugin and get his thoughts. In any case, I have new RAM coming and will continue to try to get this sorted...
