Building new unraid server

Featured Replies

i'm in the process of building my first unraid server but i'm lost in how to set up my disks.

Currently i have an all SSD setup :

4 x 2tb Samsung QVO

1 x 4tb Samsung QVO

2 x Crucial 500gb NVME

1 x Lexar NM790 4tb NVME

2 x WD Red 500gb NVME

1 x Transcend 500gb M2 sata

Any ideas on how to set this up?

Unraid will be running the ARR suite and some VM's.

The different sizes complicate things a little, SSDs can be used in the array, but it's not the best option typically. I assume you want some redundancy?

These could be on a RAIDZ pool.

Another RAIDZ pool if it's useful

You could also have a RAIDZ pool with the 4x2TB + 4x500GB

that's how i did set up the disks now. NVME for cache and larger SSD for movie storage. just left the m2 sata out because i thought it would bottleneck the performace of the nvme drives.

It can, so if you don't need the space, it's better with just the NVMe devices.
