June 9, 201214 yr I have a 4.7 install that works OK and am looking to move to 5.0. Im on the free version now, but have two pro keys that I purchased (thought 5.0 would be out a while ago). Specifically, I needed the active directory integration. I'm running this inside Esxi, and the 3 drives connected to it now are connected to mobo headers; all are 2TB each. So I thought my best course of action is to just setup another UnRaid thumbstick, pass over the BR10i card which is connected to 2x 1TB drives; 1x 2TB. Which before adding a parity drive is same free space as the 4.7 vm copy all the data over to the new VM, remove the parity drive from the 4.7, give it to the 5.0, and then run a parity check. if all checks out, move the other two drives from the 4.7 VM. Does this sound reasonable? I've seen a few issues w. people mucking up the migration. Knowing my lack of knowledge in the area, I'm bound to do the same. Also, I did read somewhere that AD integration needs to have been done at point of install, you can't just add it on? I myself asked that question, but cant' seem to locate the thread/answer. Either way I am certainly waiting for a 5.0 final before I jump over. my backups aren't as good as I would like them to be. Thanks!
June 9, 201214 yr I just followed the upgrade method posted by limetech from 4.7 to 5.0RC4 and all went well.
June 9, 201214 yr When I finally got around to folowing the instructions exactly all turned out fine and was rather easy. My only issue was that one of my disks had a very very high file count (millions of files) all of small size. Getting through the New Permissions update took quite a while. In fact I had to delete many (most) of these files which I no longer needed.
