Erratic untethering in Windows11

Featured Replies

To be clear, what I mean is that every so often (anywhere from 20 minutes in to 2 hours in) my windoes 11 computer loses connection to the unRaid server. The server doesn't shut down, but I have to restart it to re-establish connection.

I can't tell when it's going to happen, or what is causing it. I thought that I would submit my diagnostic file from the most recent event to see if there is something in there that could let me know what is happening and how to avoid it.

Please let me know if you see anything that sticks out.

Thanks- Rob

Sorry, I have a windows 11 co,puter talking to a linux unRaid server ver.6.12.6

I run Plex and Sonarr and that is all.

Do you mean you can't access the files, or you can't access the webUI, or both?

Can any other device on your network access your server when this happens?

  • Author

While I can initually see the UI of the dockers and can see the UI of unRaid, if I try and access any part of them, they either freeze or go to the windows sreen that says "can't be reached".

Then if I go to the server turn it off using the power switch and then back on, I can once again connect.

And no during this time my hoime theater connection also is not available.

The syslog in the diagnostics is the RAM copy and only shows what happened since the reboot.   It could be worth enabling the syslog server to get a log that survives a reboot so we can see what happened prior to the reboot. The mirror to flash option is the easiest to set up, but if you are worried about excessive wear on the flash drive you can put your server’s address into the Remote Server field.

  • Author

I set this up and will include after the next reboot.

Thanks-

Are you only mirroring to flash, or did you have it saved to one of your shares?

  • Author

Also to a share. I was under the impression that it would be included in the diagnostic.

Here is the file in the flash.

That was in the diagnostics, it is only a few lines long and only covers about 4 seconds.

Should I change it to appdata? or something else?

I wouldn't put it in the system share. But it won't work like that since there is no IP. Set remote IP to "localhost".

Then you will have to go to whichever share you put it in, get the file, zip it and post it. It will not be included in diagnostics.

After failing 2 (3?) times earlier it has not failed again. So I will have to email the zip tomorrow.

Can't believe I was hoping for failure...

  • Author

So far it has not failed again. I want to change the syslog to remote server.

Will this setup work?

Screenshot setup.png

Just put localhost and then it will store the logs in your isos share the way you have it.

Lots of things would have to be setup elsewhere to make it log to another computer on your network.

The beginning of that log

Feb 26 13:35:07 Tower rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="8.2102.0" x-pid="19972" x-info="https://www.rsyslog.com"] start

The end of that log

Feb 26 21:40:22 Tower rc.docker: UnraidConfigGuardian: started succesfully!

Did the problem occur between those timestamps?

  • Author

Sorry, yes.

I watched something on Plex at about 6-6:30, then didn't look again until10 or so and found it disconnected.

I tried to answer this on my phone, but it doesn't appear to have gone through.

Again, sorry.

It looks like a crash occurred between these two lines:

Feb 26 20:17:57 Tower kernel: md: recovery thread: exit status: 0

Feb 26 21:39:52 Tower root: Delaying execution of fix common problems scan for 10 minutes

But there's nothing logged, suggesting more of a hardware issue.

Well cr@p! is there anywhere else that I should look into for an answer?

also, can you delete the un-anonymised log files?

Thanks-

if you have multiple sticks try using the server with just one, if the same try with a different one, that will basically rule out bad RAM.
