QUESTION : 2 x new 4TB drives added, why was 76Gb was automatically assigned to both ?

Hi, probably a quick one to answer for someone who has been living Unraid longer than me, but as I couldnt find anything specific about this elsewhere, I thought it best to post my question here..

I have just finished formatting two drives and getting them mounted to the array, but i noticed as soon as they came up they had a chunk of space taken up straight away. (See attached) - is this expected and if so what’s the allocation for ? I can see they are the same amount and combined at close in size to the 4Gb drive I already had in there.

Yes. File system and its overhead.

It's normal with XFS, it's used for allocation structures, journal, etc

With XFS when you format the disk you lose about 2% used for creating the empty file system
