System does not recognize USB as boot device

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I came back to unRAID after a few years and I am trying to set up a new system but I am tearing my hair out.

I got a secondhand HP Z2 G5 SFF PC. It boots to Windows just fine from an internal drive. I installed unRAID to a working USB (using the installer), set BIOS to boot from USB, disabled Fast Boot, Secure Boot. After the HP splash screen, the system tells me that it can't recognize a bootable image or something like that. Please help! I would love to get a lovely unRAID server working in my home again.

Thanks for the help. I tried this - formatted drive as FAT32 volume named UNRAID, extracted straight to USB, ran make_bootable.bat. But I still get the same error. I even tested booting from the drive on my other PC and it worked fine - I got the unRAID bootloader. So it must be an issue with this PC's hardware. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it boots to Windows just fine. Why is it booting to Windows and not unRAID?

Edit: the system is saying "Selected boot image did not authenticate."

Fixed it! For anyone wondering, a quick Google solved the problem.

"When I attempted to disable Bios Sure Start, and disable Secure Boot, I had been entering the numeric codes in my keypad instead of the number keys above my keyboard. It turns out you need to use the number keys above the keyboard for these changes to take effect. When I did this, I was able to disable secure boot and clear the secure boot keys."
