Drive disabled and I don't understand why

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I am still a bit of a noob with diagnosing Unraid. I am fairly good at diagnosing my fair share of issues with my PC with forums and other guides but I wanted to get some input on this issue.

I attached my syslog file and I see that drive 1 and drive 3 are throwing errors. I just had drive 3 get emulated. I am running a smart test now as we speak to go through proper steps. It shows there are 500 errors on the drive but when I go into smart attributes 5, 195 and 197 all have values of 0 on all the drives. This tells me there is no connection issue and there isn't drive failure from the research I have been doing so this leaves me to wonder what happened to make the drive get errors and get emulated. Any thoughts? Also, drive 1 has not been emulated so I don't know if the drive is failing?

Sys specs

LSI 9207-8i HBA with a 40mm Noctua fan attached to keep cool.

850 watt PSU (for future expansion or adding GPU for better encoding)

What do you guys think?

No diagnostics so we can't look at SMART, but looks more like a power/connection issue with both drives. Check/replace cables, any power splitters in use?

I added the diagnostics zip folder. Sorry about that. I just replaced the cables and got the LSI. Its about 3 months old getting the LSI.

No power splitters in use. I only use the SATA power adapters from my modular power supply. Right now its only a 5-drive server

We don't normally monitor 195. The others are fine. You might see connection problems in 197, since that indicates error with data received. But usually, with a bad connection, there is no way for the drive to know about it since it never received anything.

Since you have single parity and disk3 is already disabled, no way to emulate another drive.

Emulated disk3 is mountable, should be OK to rebuild onto the same disk.

I wasn't ahead and shut down. checked cables and rebuilt. Back to normal again. Not sure why unraid was throwing errors.

Unraid only disables a disk if there's a write error, in this case, and in this case it looked more like a power/connection issue.
