Slim command causes black screen with cursor only..

Featured Replies

I even tried to roll back the nvidia driver, with no luck. Please see the attached diag file. Thank you for checking in on this. This is the screen I get through my KVM. ETA: Slim command worked before updating to the newest OS.

There's also an AMD GPU; try blacklisting that one:

So, I'm not super handy with command line stuff, but I think I got it blacklisted correctly. Though it still shows in use by the kernel even though it is blacklisted. Slim still brings up the same screen, all black with one un-blinking cursor. New Diag file attached. Thank you!

Did you reboot?

Yes, though I just realized that diag file is after the reboot, but without trying to run SLIM again. Here is another one after trying to run SLIM, but before reboot. Apologies for the oversight.

The AMD GPU driver is still loading; it looks correctly blacklisted to me. Try vbooting in safe mode and post new diags, just to see if it's a plugin doing it

Looks to be the case, I was able to boot into safe mode with GUI. Should I just start killing plugins until it works? Here is a new diag file.

Remove these plugins and don't reinstall them

ca.cleanup.appdata.plg - 2024.11.28 (Deprecated) (Up to date)
NerdTools.plg - 2024.02.17 (Unknown to Community Applications)

Remove these plugins for now and see what happens

gpustat.plg - 2025.11.23 (Up to date)
nvidia-driver.plg - 2026.03.19 (Up to date)
radeontop.plg - 2023.02.22 (Up to date)

I had removed nerdtools, ca.cleanup, gpustat and radeontop before seeing this reply, because I realized I just dont use/need them, and was hoping it would help, sorry. Just removed the nvidia driver plugin. The only plugins I have now are limetech plugins.. Here is the diag before reboot, but after removing the nvidia driver plugin.

Now that the nvidia-driver plugin is deleted, slim now loads. My question is though, now how do I load the nvidia driver for plex and emby transcoding if the nvidia driver plugin is causing issues for me?

Thank you for all the help.

I got it working. Re-installing the LimeTech nvidia plugin seemed to solve the issue. Thank you for all the help!
