Trying my UPS with RS232

Featured Replies

Hi there

I have an UPS model: powervision II upv3000bifx
It only have the rs232 option for connection,

Tried nut, the builtin ups option but nothing detects my device (and yes it's working btw).

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do? Or steps to make it work...

Does your server actually have RS-232 port? Or are you trying to use USB adapter?

Yeah an usb adapter.
My ups have Serial and i'm using the RS232 because my server only has USB ports.

I tried this one but did not work for me:

Tried other usb types (ModBus, PCnet, APCSmart) but none of them work... it keeps the ups status "Refreshing..." and after some time it shows nothing or "Lost Communication" error

root@JASPION:~# dmesg | grep tty

[ 0.464492] printk: legacy console [tty0] enabled

[531966.830076] ftdi_sio ttyUSB0: Unable to read latency timer: -32

[531966.832444] usb 7-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

If you wanted to run 2 computers from that UPS, you could put the interface on the other computer and do the master/slave method. Of course, the other computer would also have to be on when your server was.

I have a Windows PC on the same UPS as my Unraid but in my case Unraid is the master and PC gets the UPS status over the network from Unraid.

I just want to manage it from my unraid server... not from my machine because is a notebook and i'm not in home most of the time, but i acess my server from a vpn and use it as a proxy.
