unraid share sub directory not showing contents on disks include in share

Featured Replies

I have a share /data and it includes all disks in the array subfolders of that share are /media/movies and /media/tv and media/music the /media/tv directory is empty. But the /media/movies and /media/music are populated. If I go to the disks in the array and go to /data/media/tv I see the directory populated. How can I correct this ?

My suspicion would be a permissions error. How were they populated?

If it is a permissions error then running Tools->New Permissions on the ‘data’ share should correct it.

If @itimpi's suggestion does not fix it, do this next.

Open the GUI terminal window and type the following command:

ls -al /mnt/user/media

Post up a screenshot of the output in a new post in this thread:

I am assuming that things are still not working right...

I am a bit confused. When you say this:

Are you looking at it from a client computer? (And tell us what OS the client is running.)

And when you say this:

Are you looking at it from the Unraid File manager and/or a Linux command being run the the GUI terminal?

Oh yes, please post up the Diagnostics file in the your next post.

Diagnostics is downloaded to your computer as a single ZIP file. If it appears to you as a lot of individual files, it is bacause your computer automatically unzipped that single ZIP file. We want that complete, single ZIP file. Nobody is going to download all those individual attachments.

Please look for that single diagnostics ZIP file wherever your browser saves downloads, and attach to your NEXT post in this thread.

Guys--- This is not what one should see when looking at directory even if it is empty— look below:

That 'Input/output error' is our clue!

Maybe diagnostics will tell us when we get them.

Your syslog is filling up with entries about one of your disk controllers.

  • Community Expert

There are constant errors logged relating to a controller, but the syslog already rotated; reboot and post new diags after array start.

Post a screenshot of the User Shares page.

I think that most of what you want to see can be found the in the shareDisks.txt file in the shares folder in the Diagnostics file.

I spotted this earlier but I was waiting until the Controller issues were resolved.

  • Community Expert

I just wanted that screenshot to provide a point of further discussion for the user, since there seems to be some confusion caused by using Krusader to explain to us where the files in question actually are.

The file you mention seems to imply that there is actually a data share, and it also looks like Krusader probably has a mapping from /data to /mnt/user

So, are we talking about files in the data share, in the Media share (not sure there is actually a media share) or what?

  • Community Expert

@dodgeman, It appears that the Controller issues are not present in the syslog of your latest Diagnostics file. So, let's begin discussing the issue you have.

First thing that I noticed is that you have 70 User Shares on your Unraid server. Only thirty of them have any files physically present anywhere on the server. There is a delete check-box on the Shares page.

image.png

IF that is available/active, use it and get rid of those unused shares. (I seem to recall that it becomes 'active' when the share is empty.)

You have a data share which you say has a sub-directory named media and you also have a share which could be named Media which spans several disks. Have you looked to see what it contains?

Another thing, the version of Unraid that you are using has a built-in File manager. You can access it by clicking as shown below:

image.png

It is not as convenient to use as Krusader but it has built-in safeguards to prevent a lot of cockpit errors and it is completely configured (out of the box) to access and manage all user files on the server.

When shareDisks.txt says a share doesn't exist, I don't think it will appear on the User Shares page, so it can't be selected or deleted.

These are .cfg files in config/shares for shares that no longer exist.

If a folder exists at the top level of array or pools, it is automatically a share named for the folder. Even if the folder is empty.

If a folder doesn't exist at the top level of array or pools, it isn't a share, but may still have .cfg file in config/shares.

The way to clean those up is with the CLEAN UP button on the User Shares page.

  • Community Expert

And it is appropriate that Unraid allow those .cfg files to continue to exist, since the reason a share might not currently exist is because the disk the share is on might be currently unmountable. When the disk is made mountable again, the shares will exist, and its .cfg will apply.

So, don't CLEAN UP if you have unmountable disks.

I deleted some of the empty shares, the ones that had checkbox's that I could delete. Others have greyed out checkbox's and cannot be deleted. I am familiar with the internal file explorer, its just slower but its good for quick small add, move renames etc.
