Cheap 120 Gig SSD as Apps and MySQL-drive

Featured Replies

Hello,

as the topic states I am looking for a cheap SSD 120 Gig SSD. At the moment I use a 640 GB WD blue drive to run sab/sick/beard and mysql, but it gets 42 degrees hot, thus I am looking for an alternative.

Which are recommended with a garbage collector on the chip at the moment?

Best regards,

p1lot

I know only of Corsair an Plextor with garbage collection but those are not cheap.

Maybe OCZ Vertex?

Well actually I do not really mind the garbage collector functionality that much. But this disk has to write data very often (all usenet-downloads) and the mysql-database on it should remain very fast. Would this one suffice?

That's the problem. Without proper garbage collection built in or TRIM support in the OS any SSD will slow down substantially over time. Check out this article to see what I mean.

Thanks for the link, will definitely buy a proper SSD then.

I have a couple Crucial M4 drives, and they have garbage collection.  Just make sure whatever drive you get you flash to the latest firmware.
