June 16, 201214 yr went to add another hard drive to my server today. tried to stop array but couldn't... kept getting 'retry unmounting shares.... finally had to hard power down (not good i know). booted up, and saw that drives were mounting. slowly, one by one, they mounted, while a parity check was running i was refreshing the main page watching the drives mount, and after they all mounted, i immediately lost my connection! can't connect to main page, or unmenu. also, when i launch putty, it immediately crashes! i have no idea what to try next... since i can't connect to the server OR connect with putty, i'm at a loss? advice please??!?
June 16, 201214 yr Author i know this is probably not great, but did another hard powerdown. booted up no problem thank god. will have to do a parity check. wish there were more options for when you can't connect
June 16, 201214 yr Author ok sorry to keep the drama alive so everything booted fine, i added a previously precleared drive to the array no problem. then stopped the array a second time, to add a brand new drive for purposes of preclearing. rebooted, saw drive through putty, and initiated preclear no problem went back to main page and see that every drive is mounted EXCEPT my cache drive, which is an 80gb ssd drive. i don't think i've ever seen the cache drive unmounted ever before. have waited about 30 min and still not mounted. do i have another problem on my hands? i don't want to reboot because i'm now preclearing....
June 16, 201214 yr Author still mounting...just the cache drive... any recommendations? i can access through putty... but have no idea what i should do or checkout!!!!
June 16, 201214 yr Author bump for help? in summary, i have all drives mounted (14) EXCEPT for my cache drive, which is preventing the shares from being accessed. so basically i'm stuck... i can access tower from web interface and putty... however i'm stuck at array status 'starting' which appears due to the cache drive saying 'mounting'. its an 80gb ssd drive please help? i really don't want to do a third hard power down today!!!
June 17, 201214 yr It's hard for anyone to make much of a diagnosis without more background info and logs. If web and PuTTY are working, you should be able to obtain a syslog and SMART reports. The main thing we need now is your syslog, and it would also help to provide some detail about your hardware and setup, what is installed. Please see Include your VERSION and SYSTEM LOG for support issues. Remember - need support? need syslog!
June 18, 201214 yr If you're running plugins they may be trying to start and is hung, preventing your array from coming online. Try the following in putty: ps xua | grep start If it returns anything that is "starting" (usually a python command). Run the following: kill -9 PID where PID is the process id of the stuck command (usually 4 or 5 numbers).
