7.3.0 Windows VM GPU Video suddenly Black while Sound passes through (Solved)

Featured Replies

7.2.6 and earlier Windows 11 VMs worked fine

Updated to 7.3.0 and the screen shows black however sound can be heard – even the VM boot screen which typically displays an ‘Unraid bios’ splash screen was black

After my first VM boot, I remoted into the desktop (using RustDesk) and updated the Nvidia driver for the 5060 Ti (1:00.0 & 1:00.1) – this allowed display passthrough to work just fine at this point in time.

After rebooting the VM it is back to displaying a black screen while sound works fine.

Under System/Display/Advanced Display I can see my LG TV connected to the 5060 Ti.

Rebooting the entire Unraid server, and each time the VM is launched for the first time, it will display a non-black screen only AFTER DDU and re-installing the NVIDIA driver.

lspci – knn (kernel driver in use vfio-pci, looks fine)

Tools/system devices has 5070 Ti isolated to IOMMU group 17 and bound w/ green circles

Updating the machine from i440fx-9.1 to 10.2 had no effect

WHAT FINALLY SOLVED THE ISSUE:  Changed GPU Multifunction from N to Y

Hopefully this helps someone
