Migrating to new server - new everything - question(s?)

Featured Replies

Hello fellow Unraiders! I've been running my current server for about 7 years now. I started off with classic unraid, running all SSD's -> moved them over to ZFS on unraid once it was officially supported. But now my SSD's are starting to show signs of wear and tear. And I'll be going back to a classic unraid setup, but with new HDD's + ssd cache this time on more power efficient hardware.

That being said, I only have 1 Unraid license, and I will need to have 2 servers up awhile the data migration is happening, and I was wondering what would the best way to do this be?

I was thinking of loading up a free trial license onto a USB, get the new server up and running, copy the data over, then register the new USB. Would this work? Once I register a USB with one email, would I be able to change it later?

Yes. you can register the trial with the same or different email. Not clear if you then plan to buy a new license or just transfer the key, if transferring, you will need to use the same email; if new, you can use whatever you want.
