Hardware upgrade, how do I do it?

Featured Replies

My current Unraid server is running on:

CPU: Intel 4930k

RAM: 32Gb

MOBO: Rampage V

GPU: GTX980

5x HDD (1 for parity, rest for data)

2x SATA SSD for cache

1500w psu

I have some hardware from upgrading my main PC, so I want to use that to upgrade my Unraid server. Here is what I will install:

CPU: Intel i9 10920X

RAM: 64Gb

MOBO: Rampage VI Omega

GPU: 2x 2080Ti

Same HDDs

Same SATA SSD

An additional 1Tb NVME SDD (still not sure on what to use it for)

Same PSU.

My question is, can I just swap the hardware and that's it? (Will need to re-do pass trough of the GPUs) or will Unraid fail to start and I will need to do a more complicated installation (backup of all settings, install Unraid from scratch in a new USB, restore settings).

In theory it should "just work".

Having said that I to avoid any potential issues I would remove any pass throughs of hardware as the IDs will definitely change (and make sure no VM that uses them tries to autostart) and redo them when you come up on the new hardware.
