May 23, 200818 yr I'm brand new and clueless I just got 4.3-beta 6 Basic up and running. I realize I have no user level security in the basic version so I can not add users. But, in the Shares section it shows User shares as enabled, but grayed out since the array is running. Can I still make user shares, even though user level security is not active in the basic version? I tried making one but after I hit "add share", nothing happened. What I am looking to do is have a shares on the NAS for media such as music, tv shows, movies, photos, etc. I would like to browse to the NAS and see those shares, not disk1, disk2. Is this possible with the basic version?
May 23, 200818 yr Author Well I made a Movies, Music, and TV folder on both "disk1" and "disk2", and I now see them as shares. Is there any reason I could not make these shares from the web interface? EDIT: Now I can makes shares from the web interface. I am not sure what the issue was previously, but it's working now I just need to figure out how to remove the test share I just made. EDIT2: Test share removed. So far so good!
May 23, 200818 yr I don't have my web interface open right now, but I believe you have to stop the array to enable shares. Then you can start the array again and make the corresponding folders on each disk. THen go back to the webpage and enable the shares that show up. As far as I know the security fucntion doesn't have anything to do with shares. I mean I guess if you have security enabled then certain computers can't see the shares.
