June 22, 201214 yr Will any of the 2 port 6Gbps PCIe sata controllers mentioned in the below referenced article work for unRAID (latest v5 beta)? http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=10 .... [sATA] Marvell 88SE9128 or 88SE9125 or 88SE9120, 6Gbps, PCIe (gen2) x1 [150-175MB/s/port] Availability: $25 $35. HighPoint HBA based on this chip: Rocket 620. LyCOM HBA based on this chip: PE-115. Koutech HBA based on this chip: PESA230. This is the only 2-port chip on the market with no bottleneck caused by the PCIe link at Max_Payload_Size=128. Pretty surprising that it is being sold for such a low price. Linux support: ahci Solaris support: not supported [update 2010-09-21: Despite being AHCI-compliant, this series of chips seems unsupported by Solaris according to reader comments, see below.] FreeBSD support: ahci

I'm assuming that this one will work - it's specifically referenced by elkay14 in relation to his enable_ahci script, here. Mine is already on its way to Philippines, from USofA, via DHL. I will be able to confirm once it arrives.
June 22, 201214 yr Don't know about PCIe Max_Payload_Size, but SY-PEX40039 should work (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005B0A6ZS/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M2T1_SC_dp_1) , and other cards based on the same chip should work http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=18522.msg186211#msg186211
June 22, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the expertise gents, appreciate it! PeterB if/when you can confirm I'd be curious to know if the HighPoint Rocket 620 requires using the script to enable it in the v5 version(s) you try.

Okay, I will let you know - the package from CA has already been processed in Hong Kong in the last hour, so it's getting closer. I'm always prepared for delays once items arrive in Philippines, though.
June 27, 201214 yr I have a mate looking into unRAID ATM and was just about to post here when I found this thread: Script to enable SATA Controllers without kernel modification http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19882.0 As I was looking into this card: 4 Port SATA3 PCI-E 4x - HighPoint Rocket R640L Controller AU$85 from PCCaseGear http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_385&products_id=20530
June 27, 201214 yr PeterB if/when you can confirm I'd be curious to know if the HighPoint Rocket 620 requires using the script to enable it in the v5 version(s) you try. Confirmed! The 620 (or a drive connected to it) does not show up in unRAID until that script is run. So, many grateful thanks to elkay14! I'm much less grateful to the Philippine customs/DHL who charged me the equivalent of USD40 for daring to have the card shipped here from USofA! I shall have to find a better way of importing stuff - I've never been charged for anything sent via US Post Office - but that takes about a month to deliver. DHL offer the option of prepaying duties when shipping - I wonder what that would have cost me.
