Replacing a failed drive with a smaller one

I had a 1TB drive fail - no big deal since it was empty, however the only replacement drive I have on hand is a 250GB one. Is it safe to use New Config and rebuild the array from parity or do I need to shrink the array first?image.pngimage.png

    If the failed drive was empty you can New Config with the smaller drive in place of the failed drive, let parity rebuild, and format the new drive during or after parity rebuild.

    Or New Config/Rebuild Parity with nothing in place of the failed drive since 250G is perhaps not big enough to bother with.
