My server keeps crashing/freezing from time to time (mostly when I use Plex, but not exclusively, I think) and I can't really figure out, what is wrong. I used the "Fix Common Problems" plugin which told me, there are "Out Of Memory errors detected on your server" and "Your server has run out of memory, and processes (potentially required) are being killed off. You should post your diagnostics and ask for assistance on the Unraid forums ". I guess that could be it.

Any ideas as to what causes this?

It just looks to me like you need more RAM, or run fewer containers; the server is running out of RAM without an apparent memory leak, or single process being the issue.

But wouldnt that just make it slow instead of crashing it?

Unraid runs entirely from RAM, if you run out, it crashes.

Run fewer containers = make it slow, how?

8GB is just not enough to run a stack of apps like you seem to have.

I meant: If it ran out of RAM, wouldn't it just be slower, instead of crashing entirely? Wrong presumption on my part?

I'm not complainiung, just needing some additional old RAM is actually a solution to the problem that I like. :D

Yup, that would be correct for a regular home PC which would have some swap space and would misuse an SDD/HDD to put stuff on that should be in RAM, but Unraid doesn't do swap. When there's no RAM for the essentials something needs to get killed.
