September 3Sep 3 Unraid version - 7.3.2Good afternoonMy friend was changing out a disk in his server that was starting to fail. This disk was in slot 6.He mistakenly put the new disk in slot 7 and started the rebuild. Then noticed, shut it down, took it out of 7 and put it in 6 and then put 7 back in. And here we are...Luckily he managed to grab a screenshot of the disk layout yesterday; Now I've set it to this; But because he's only got 1 parity drive, unraid won't start rebuilding because 7 has changed and 6 has changed.I'm about 90% sure on the answer, but wanted to just check before I commited.Am I correct in saying I need to go to Tools -> New config -> Preserve assignments (all) -> Yes I want to do this -> Main tab -> Tick parity is already valid and then start the array? This should then only rebuild disk 6. September 3Sep 3 Community Expert That may work, but assuming they started rebuilding in normal mode, parity won't be 100% valid, and it may cause filesystem issues on the emulated disk, though if it's XFS it should be recoverable.27 minutes ago, Jdmar said:disk in his server that was starting to fail.Depending on how the disk is failing, if they can still run a correcting check after the new config and before the replacement, it would be better.
September 3Sep 3 Author That's a good point. It was just getting constant SMART errors so he wanted to swap it out. After seeing your reply, would it be better to put 6 back in and put the new disk in 7, wait for it to rebuild. Then put what was in 7, into 6 instead? Just gonna take a long time thats all I'm thinking. Edited September 3Sep 3 by Jdmar
September 3Sep 3 Community Expert I would prefer to see a SMART report before suggesting what I would do next.
