5.0RC5 Ethernet LAN issues

Featured Replies

I recently tried upgrading from version 5 RC3 to RC5 and am having issues with the ethernet. I unloaded all plugins by moving them out of /boot/extra and removed unmenu by only putting "/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &" in my go script. I then stopped the array, copied the bzimage and bzroot files over samba to the flash drive, and rebooted.

On the first boot, the ethernet adapter didn't get an ip address from my router. I walked over to the server console and ifconfig showed the eth0 adapter, but it wasn't connected to the network. I downgraded back to RC3 and re-enabled the plugins and unmenu and it booted up and connected tot he network without any issues.

My onboard LAN uses the Atheros AR8131M chipset. I understand there have been some driver updates since RC3, but it doesn't appear to have touched the Atheros drivers. Additional details about my build are below. Any help would be great.

1x SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0Gb/s) 4 Port RAID 0/1/5/10 JBOD Card

1x Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card

1x Hitachi 2tb (parity)

1x WD 1.5 TB

1x WD 1.0 TB

1x Seagate 160 GB (cache)

Actually, the syslog from both RC3 and on RC5 would be helpful, for comparison.

I have a static IP address assigned from my router based on MAC address.

I will upload a syslog for a clean boot of RC3 and RC5 tonight.

Attached is my syslog from a clean boot of RC5. I was having trouble getting the syslog off the unraid box because for some reason the keyboard input wasn't registering with unraid. I tried two keyboards, one is a USB and the other is a PS/2. Both keyboards started working again on the third reboot. This is an issue I've only seen with RC5.

You know how you hear a strange sound from your car, so you take it to your mechanic, and of course you cannot get any strange sounds, everything runs perfectly?  Your syslogs are reminding me of that, in that there are no issues at all with the networking.  Both syslogs show identical setup and successful usage of atl1c, same version even.  Overall, the RC3 and RC5 syslogs are essentially identical.  (The RC5 syslog shows you are restarting after an improper shutdown, replaying transactions.)

And your random keyboard issue?  The RC5 syslog shows it found your Chicony USB Keyboard, where as in the RC3 syslog - the system did NOT find a USB keyboard!  Sounds like you may be having sporadic issues on bootup, not specific to the RC5 version either.  I can't think of any recommendations.

Hmm well that's interesting. I guess I'll try again and see what happens.
