Server Log Is Getting Full

Featured Replies

Had a look through your diagnostics and I think I’ve found what’s filling the log.

/var/log is only 128MB and yours is sitting at around 90% used, but the normal syslog itself isn’t particularly large. The problem looks to be nginx repeatedly logging this:

open() "/usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/images/question.png"
failed (2: No such file or directory)

There are a huge number of these entries. On 6 September alone there were well over 100,000 of them in a pretty short space of time, which is why one of the rotated syslogs ended up over 50MB.

It looks like the Unraid GUI is repeatedly trying to load the default question.png Docker icon and the file isn’t there. The requests are coming from 192.168.29.187 while accessing the Unraid web GUI on 192.168.29.119:8082.

This looks like the Docker fallback icon bug in Unraid 7.3.2 rather than anything being wrong with your disks or Docker image.

As you’ve already grabbed the diagnostics, a reboot should clear out the old logs in /var/log. I’d then keep an eye on it and see if it starts climbing again.

You can check what’s using the space with:

du -ah /var/log | sort -h | tail -20

and check for the repeated icon error with:

grep "question.png" /var/log/syslog

From what I can see, this has already been addressed in the 7.3.3 release candidate, so I’d probably just clear the logs for now and update once 7.3.3 stable is available.

So I don’t think you’ve got anything seriously wrong with the server - it just looks like the web interface has been hammering the log with the same missing icon error.

Thank you for the help. I have restarted and it looks like the log file is good now. As soon as 7.3.3 is our officially, I will update right away. Thanks for the quick response and help. I really do appreciate it.
