[Support] Quven Server

Featured Replies

Update, 3 October 2026: the template now follows ghcr.io/nickayl/quven:latest, while a container installed before then still points at the version tag it was created with and won't be offered an update when a new release comes out. You can fix it in the Docker tab by opening Edit, setting Repository to ghcr.io/nickayl/quven:latest and pressing Apply. Appdata is kept.

This is the support thread for the Quven template in Community Applications. Something not working on your Unraid box? Post it here.

Quven, in brief: It's a self-hosted media server for films, series and documentaries, with music and ebooks in preview and it is free for personal use.

The template runs the signed Server image from GitHub Container Registry, built for AMD64 and ARM64.

Before starting:

The container runs as UID/GID 10001 on a read-only root filesystem with every capability dropped, which is deliberate and means the appdata folder has to belong to that user before the server can write its database:

mkdir -p /mnt/user/appdata/quven && chown -R 10001:10001 /mnt/user/appdata/quven

The media share is mounted read-write, because generated subtitles land beside the film. If you'd rather the server never wrote there, you can switch that path to read-only.

After the first start:

Link the server to your Quven Account, which is what lets the apps sign in:

docker exec -it Quven /app/Quven.Local.Server account link

Open the address it prints and approve the server. You won't find a web page on port 5181. The native apps for Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android TV and Fire TV should discover the server on your network by themselves. On a free account, you add a library from the desktop app on any computer in the same network. And since it browses the server's own folders, the paths you pick are the ones the container sees.

Hardware transcoding

The template can't enable it for you. An unprivileged container needs the host's render and video group IDs as well as the device, and those differ from one machine to the next. So the Docker Compose bundle on quven.tv is the place for it, with ready profiles for VA-API and NVIDIA.

Asking for help:

Please include the image tag, your Unraid version and the container log. If the server can't write its appdata folder, the log says so in its first lines and prints the command that fixes it.

Template now follows the latest image

  • Author

Until today the Quven template pinned the image to a version tag, such as v1.1.9 or v1.4.1. That tag never moves. Unraid had nothing newer to compare it with, so it never offered an update and those servers stayed on whatever release they were installed with, even after several newer ones were published. The template now follows ghcr.io/nickayl/quven:latest, though a container that's already installed keeps the repository it was created with and needs one change on your side.

How do you switch? Open the Docker tab, click the Quven icon and choose Edit, replace the Repository value with ghcr.io/nickayl/quven:latest and press Apply. Unraid pulls the current image and recreates the container while appdata, your libraries and your settings stay where they are, and from then on each new release shows up in the Docker tab as an update you can apply, the way it does for any other container. That's all.

We're treating this update as mandatory. The releases since those tags have updated a large number of components, security fixes among them, and a server that far behind won't receive any of them until the tag changes. You should be on 1.4.3 once the container restarts. And if it doesn't come back, post here with your Unraid version and the server log, and we'll look at it.
