June 29, 201214 yr I bought 4 Norco SS-500 5x3 Cages for use in my Antec 1200 unRAID system. How are you supposed to get these tabs down so you can actually install the 5x3 cages into the system? I'm trying to do it with my hand, with a hammer, with pliers... the pliers kind of work. I noticed in 2 other threads people talking about using C-Clamps but I'm not sure how you could use a C-Clamp to work (because I've never used a C-Clamp). Does anyone have a video of this? Also, would either of these C-Clamps work - http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-4017-4-Inch-Heavy-Clamp/dp/B000NY6QMO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340964182&sr=8-1&keywords=C-Clamp - http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-4027-6-Inch-Heavy-Clamp/dp/B000NY6QO2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1340964182&sr=8-2&keywords=C-Clamp
June 29, 201214 yr Author I'm assuming you're talking about this photo: http://i.imgur.com/7ZISV.jpg Jesus Christ that thing is huge. How much does that thing cost? Can you just get any C Clamp that looks like that at Home Depot or does it have to be a specific one?
June 29, 201214 yr The only critical thing is the depth of the jaw, so that you can reach the whole length of the tabs you need to flatten.
June 30, 201214 yr I used the regular 2" clamps linked in the OP, the depth isn't enough to reach the entire tab on both sides but it flattened enough of it where I could get a pick (brake tool) under the other side and bend it up.
July 1, 201214 yr I installed my first SS-500 cage in my Antec 1200, today, using an 8" Deep Throat C-Clamp with PVC Jaw Pads added to minimize damage. The PVC Jaw Pads were an experiment that worked quite well. My process was to use pliers to bend down, the c-clamp to bend further, and then a flathead screwdriver to leverage the tabs to the outside of the case. I was more concerned about moving the tabs out of the way than how flat I could get them. The only marring was from the pliers and screwdriver. I found the clamp and pads online at Harbor Freight Tools and was lucky enough to pick them up in the store on my way to some fireworks, last night. I've never heard of the place and there isn't one in my neck of the woods. http://www.harborfreight.com/8-inch-deep-throat-c-clamp-45917.html http://www.harborfreight.com/9-pairs-c-clamp-jaw-pads-91952.html (Many thanks to all the folks who did this before me and posted about it. Made it very easy to accomplish successfully.)
