Can someone point me in the direction of a plugin or script that can email me daily or two times a day that would provide some insight on how my unraid server is running.  I just want to make sure if I don't lofin to the website to look that i won't go without noticing some trouble...

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am running 4.7 with Unmenu

Thanks,

Neil

Simplefeatures will do that and some stuff more (if you want it to)

Simplefeatures will not work on the 4.7 version of unRAID.

However, in the package-manager of unMENU there are three packages that will provide exactly what you need.

ssmtp_2.64_orig.tar.bz2

This package installs both mailx and ssmtp, a subset of "sendmail" needed to send alerts from the unRAID server

unraid-status-email

unRAID Status Alert sent hourly by e-mail  (configurable for specific hours and content)

unraid-overtemp-shutdown

The script is created in /usr/local/sbin/overtemp_shutdown.sh

It will run every 5 minutes, and shut down the unRAID array if temperature settings are exceeded.

If you have installed and configured a "mail" command on your unRAID server, you will get a warning e-mail when the temperature gets above the configured warning threshold. An e-mail will also be sent if the shutdown temperature is reached and a powerdown command is initiated.

In order to not spin up disks, only those spinning will have their temperature checked.

To install the ssmtp process you will need to install the "C" compiler first. (only a few button presses, also in the package manager)

"C" compiler & development tools

after installing mail and the notification scripts, set them to re-install on reboot.

The "C" compiler is not needed once the ssmtp program is compiled, so you do not need to re-install that on reboot.

I installed the compiler and tried the ssmtp but got an error:

257ac04e62ab7e3616e220333a1140cb (NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid.)

Not Found

The requested URL /debian/pool/main/s/ssmtp/ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz was not found on this server.

I am running unmenu Version 1.4 Revision: 223.  I attempted to update but on the google site it says 1.3x so I thought that is a step backwards?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Did you use it? I'm thinking you did not.

What you are seeing is version 1.3.7.1 of the unmenu_install program.  It is the utility I wrote to install and update unMENU.

Once you download and run unmenu_install, you'll see it will download and install version 1.5 of unMENU.  (You can verify by using the "About" link in unMENU.)

Found that.  Just to be picky and not seem ungrateful it is a bit confusing :)

Ok I didn't install the overtemp script as I don't think that is an issue for me.  Perhaps I am naive :)

The one question would be how do I go about configuring the email script.  I will poke around but im sure I will have issue :)

Thanks!

Another stupid question: when I updated unmenu it wiped out my config file and I don't use DNS to resolve any names.  I use the ip address.  I fixed the issue with unmenu in the unmenu.conf but where do I change the reference to the website for unraid.  When I go to unraid main it doesn't send me to the right place.  It tries to use the machine name.

Perfect that resolves that now I just need to figure out the SSMTP thing :)

One unRAID user had their server in a spare bedroom.  Never made any huge effort to silence it, since it had its own room.

Worked perfectly until they had a overnight guest.  The guest silenced the server by covering it with a quilt.

It overheated badly.  (same could happen if a fan fails, or filters clog.)

Understood! I installed it.  But I need to know how to setup the notifications every 12 hours.  Any documentation to do that?

Thanks,

Neil

yes, right on the config page for the warning e-mail

Send mail even if status is normal?(YES/NO/NN): If set to YES, an e-mail will be sent hourly stating status is OK, if NO, no OK status will be sent, if set to a numeric string, OK status will be sent only on those hours. 06 will send an OK status at 6:47 AM, 08 16 00 will send an OK status 3 times a day, at 08:47, 16:47, and 00:47.

So, to send a status is OK update twice a day, as 7AM and 7PM (as an example) enter

07 19

in the field.

Status is checked for abnormal conditions every hour.

I gotta be missing something.  What config page is there? I looked on both packages and didn't see anything like what you are describing :(

Stupid me neglected to install:

I was hoping I could get some help debugging the issue with one of my unraid servers.  I have both with the same packages installed.  I have confirmed their settings are identical for the SSMTP package.  I also confirmed that both can access the internet without a problem.  The second server can not send email.  My test email script never makes it to the proper email address.  Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.  In the meantime I am going to reboot the second server which isn't working properly (sorry I am more a windows guy :) )

Thanks!
