July 4, 201214 yr I have the following noard: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41TM_LX/ The following interfaces are available for disk cards: PCIex16 PCIeX1 PCI (Which have to be shared with a Gigabit Network Card on the other PCI slot... So maybe this slot shouldn't be used?) Which cards should I go for, if I wanted to run SATA 3Gbit/s disk's without creating a bottleneck? I guess the SuperMicro one with 8 drives could be used in the x16 slot, but what about the x1 slot?
July 4, 201214 yr If the 16x will actually work for a non video card... You can use a SAS expander and as many drives as 30+ on that slot.
July 4, 201214 yr Your mobo is only PCIe gen1. Your x1 slot will xfer max of ~190MB/s; put no more than 2 drives on it. In addition, I would not be too optimistic about getting overall high aggregate bandwidth on that mobo. It uses an ICH7 Southbridge, which is pretty damn ancient. Funny though, the mobo does use DDR3 memory. Strange bedfellows ...
