July 8, 201213 yr OK, I finally got my unraid back up and running after what i thought was a power supply failure, to being a mobo failure... anyways, i started it back up, and I got an error with a drive not being "protected" here are the SMART Attributes: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x002f 200 200 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0027 174 164 021 Pre-fail Always - 8258 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 099 099 000 Old_age Always - 1038 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 199 199 140 Pre-fail Always - 1 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x002e 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 077 077 000 Old_age Always - 17018 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 11 Calibration_Retry_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 186 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 160 193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 096 096 000 Old_age Always - 312190 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 123 107 000 Old_age Always - 29 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 199 199 000 Old_age Always - 1 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 197 196 000 Old_age Always - 1266 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0030 198 196 000 Old_age Offline - 952 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x0008 124 124 000 Old_age Offline - 15287 and I've done some short tests, and here are the results Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error # 1 Short offline Completed without error 00% 17018 - # 2 Short offline Completed without error 00% 16887 - So why does unraid think it is a failed drive? it is coming back "ok" (yeah, i know it is a older drive, but it is only 2 years old so not really THAT old) what now?

Replace it in my opinion.
July 8, 201213 yr It was taken out of service when a write to it failed. with as many un-readable sectors as it has, it needs to be replaced ASAP. Do NOT attempt to force it back in service. Joe L.
July 8, 201213 yr to make sure, you can run the preclear script on it 1-2 times; but likely that will just prove it is time to RMA the drive (if you can).

July 8, 201213 yr Author thanks for the advise guys. the drive is just about 2 years old, so still under warrenty, so I will RMA it. also, I did a LONG SMART test, and this is what i got: Num Test Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA of first error 1 Extended offline Completed: read failure 50% 17022 2432973423 2 Short offline Completed without error 00% 17018 None 3 Short offline Completed without error 00% 16887 None so yeah, time to replace.
