OK, I finally got my unraid back up and running after what i thought was a power supply failure, to being a mobo failure...

anyways, i started it back up, and I got an error with a drive not being "protected"

and I've done some short tests, and here are the results

Num  Test_Description    Status                  Remaining  LifeTime(hours)  LBA_of_first_error
# 1  Short offline       Completed without error       00%     17018         -
# 2  Short offline       Completed without error       00%     16887         -

So why does unraid think it is a failed drive?  it is coming back "ok" (yeah, i know it is a older drive, but it is only 2 years old so not really THAT old)

what now?

197 Current_Pending_Sector  0x0032  197  196  000    Old_age  Always      -      1266

198 Offline_Uncorrectable  0x0030  198  196  000    Old_age  Offline      -      952

199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count    0x0032  200  200  000    Old_age  Always      -      0

200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate  0x0008  124  124  000    Old_age  Offline      -      15287

I would say it has failed. Replace it in my opinion.

It was taken out of service when a write to it failed.

with as many un-readable sectors as it has, it needs to be replaced ASAP.  Do NOT attempt to force it back in service.

to make sure, you can run the preclear script on it 1-2 times; but likely that will just prove it is time to RMA the drive (if you can).

I would try this, but first replace the drive with a spare.

thanks for the advise guys.

the drive is just about 2 years old, so still under warrenty, so I will RMA it.

also, I did a LONG SMART test, and this is what i got:

Num	Test Description	Status	Remaining	LifeTime(hours)	LBA of first error
1	Extended offline	Completed:	read failure	50%	17022 2432973423
2	Short offline	Completed without error	00%	17018	None
3	Short offline	Completed without error	00%	16887	None

so yeah, time to replace.
