Power Cut

Featured Replies

Ok, so there was a power cut and now for some reason my parity drive is missing, the disk is not in the list and it just says "unassigned".

It's kinda making me wish I had bought a UPS now, but what are my steps for recovery?

How do I get it to find the disk again, and hopefully just rebuild parity?

Step1.  Read the sticky at the top of this forum about supplying a syslog for analysis when requesting help.  (then do so)

Step 2. Re-read the sticky at the top of this forum about telling us the VERSION of unRAID you are running. (then do so, the screens used for recovery procedures are different in various versions... we are not mind-readers, we cannot give correct guidance without that information.)

Step 3.  Unless you know the power was off completely, power cycle.  See if the drive shows up in the BIOS, see if it shows up in the system log.

Step 4.  Power down, re-seat the connections to that drive, both power and data.  It is possible the temperature changes cause it to shift and loosen.

If the drive does show itself, and is available for assignment when you stop the array, assign it, start the array, and let parity re-construct itself.

Well it must've been a loose connection, I disconnected and reconnected everything and it found the drive again.

Thanks for the help.

Did it start a parity check on start up?  If not, run one (with no correction enabled).
