July 26, 201213 yr Author Ok, thanks. I assume then that the fact that I can't start the array after adding a data disk probably doesn't have much to do with preclearing? It DID say that the preclearing was successful, if that makes a difference.
July 26, 201213 yr Not knowing more tools to troubleshoot, I wonder if the disk.cfg or super.dat somehow already has the 3TB serial number stored. It would invalidate parity, but you could run the new configuration utility, and then add the drive. Take a screen shot of your current drive configuration. July 26, 201213 yr I wonder if the disk.cfg or super.dat somehow already has the 3TB serial number stored. If you don't have it in a saved syslog, then strings /boot/config/super.dat will list the drives. The parity drive is first, then disk1, 2, etc.
July 26, 201213 yr Author I actually did run the new config utility and re-built parity. I've done this since I was attempting to use the 3TB drive at all. I will def check whether the s/n is stored, although it does say "new disk added" (or something similar), leading me to believe that it isn't.
