Very basic parity drive question

Why with unRAID is it that the number of parity drives required to secure the data on the data storage drives doesn't scale with the number of data drives?  Why, if say 1 parity drive is needed to support 2 drives, is only 1 drive necessary still to support even 10 data storage drives?  I'm sorry but I don't understand the basics I guess.

    OK, I get it now, thanks.  It's also crystal clear now why you can't have more than one drive fail at the same time.  :o
