Featured Replies

Hi all,

NCIX is having a Christmas in July sale. The above mentioned drive is being sold for $219.99 AND *they include a gift card for $20 in the package.

Cheapest I've seen these drives yet...

Cheers,

EDIT: 1/Household and 3yr warranty... :)

EDIT 2: Extra coupon code for $2 Off: FACEBOOKRALLY

I noticed that as well. The question is how do these work with unRAID? What's the community's experience?

We reviewed a drive very similar to this one a while back.  Have a look-see here.

I haven't read about anyone having issues with this drive (and prostuff1's link above is positive), so I'm fairly sure it's fine :).

I ordered 1 for my parity drive, and figure I'll wait a bit to get another one, in case the price on these guys keeps dropping. I'm hoping this is a trend back to the good ol days of $69/2TB! :)

I'm running with 6 of those at the moment, for about a week now. No problems so far, using unRAID v5.0-rc5 on a Supermicro SAS2LP-MV8.

The disks are getting a bit warmer then i was expecting, about 40C, but this offcourse is also depending on the used enclosure etc.

Do/did you have other drives in the case that are/were running cooler? Thanks!

Not in that machine, but i'm used to disks running about 28-30C in my Windows PC.

Any idea on warranty? 3 year?

Wonder if WD is clearance selling these. I missed a similar sale on the 3TB Hitachi drives ($120) right before they disappeared from the market forever.

According to the NCIX site, they have a 3 year manufacturer warranty:

First 30 days limited warranty through NCIX.com. The remainder of the 3 year warranty is provided directly by the manufacturer.

Just came across a coupon code that takes another $2 off

FACEBOOKRALLY

Not a huge deal, but every little bit helps

:)

DB.

They are 260+ euro here locally (Europe, Netherlands)

So it seems a very good price.

A bit warmer then I like, but fans weren't running at full because I haven't modified the fan speed script yet to include the new drive, so the fans were not spinning up to max when the drive was warming up. Once it has been included, I'm confident to say that the temps should drop to low-mid 30s.

Speeds are pretty solid. I was seeing up to 150MB/S reads and 110 MB/S writes...
