July 20, 201213 yr I've recently aquired a APC RS 1000 UPS (BR1000I) that powers my unRAID server. But it is missing the Data Link cable (USB to RJ-45) and I don't have one around. I do, however, have a RJ-45 to Serial adapter around here somewhere, and my unRAID server does have a Serial Interface... Would it be possible to connect them that way, for the UPS to be able to tell the server that it's on backup power now, with the APC plugin?
July 20, 201213 yr Not sure if it is the same for you but i needed to have a serial (UPS end) to USB (server end, no serial port) cable for an APC device i purchased and it turns out that the wiring is bespoke to APC for this cable. hope you dont have the same issue. On the plus side i exchanged some mails with APC tech support and they sent me a cable for free so +1 for APC tech support, if you come unstuck try them.

I have a similar APC UPS, and the "RJ45" end has 10 conductors, not 8 as in a standard LAN cable. If you search on google you can find the pinout. The tough part is finding a 10-pin RJ (type) connector. Joe L.
July 20, 201213 yr APC changed the pinout a few times. they had some sort of paranoid brainthought. they can help you find the correct cable +1 for apc support. I sent in a 1300 and they sent back a 1300 and a 1000 and said oops sorry just keep them both. plus I got a spare battery because they told me to keep the one from the unit i sent back
July 21, 201213 yr You can also get cables from Ebay sellers - I got a spare (just in case). An Ebay search for apc ups usb cable brings up plenty from various parts of the globe.
