Copying an Unraid Server

Featured Replies

New to unraid, so sorry for anything that seems trival.

Been searching the forums and saw posts close to what I want to do but not exactly.

I have a friend running Unraid, with about 5tb of data I would like to snatch from him on to my new server.

My house is wired with cat6, I have gigabit switches and routers. But was hoping for something faster.

He uses the norco drive bays...has plenty of empty ones fully wired and has the pro license key.

Is there a way to throw into his drive bays, my data drives, copy from his array 5tb worth of data to my drives, remove my drives, put them back into my machine, add a parity drive and parity sync?

At this point, I have gotten the prolicense key.

I have built the server, I have three 2tb drives pre-cleared with another 2tb drive (will be parity drive) in the mail.

I have done no configuration of the drives yet in Unraid other than verify that they are seen.

Any help on this process (if it is better than transferring 5tb through a network connection) would be greatly appriciated.

Rsync script and copy over the data on the LAN.

appreciate the response

Not quite sure of the Rsync script as I'm just now messing with linux.

When searching for information about this I came across;

Would you suggest this, and on page two use TeamHood's step-by-step?

And since I would have the ability to use the Norco hotswap bays inside the source Server, would this still be the best way to go?

thanks again for all the help you guys can offer.
